April 29

In response to mining's significant environmental impact, Sudbury's industry and community have proudly and famously joined forces to regreen our region. In celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary, we look back at the past 150 years of Sudbury's science story and explore the future of our environmental remediation efforts. Was the regreening of Sudbury a precondition for the region to become a viable science hub, cultural centre and tourist destination? How have science and technology continued to contribute to the transformation of Sudbury? What does Sudbury have to teach the world? How will our science be tied to our future? How are future generations being inspired to learn and continue to lead the charge in environmental stewardship?

Modern Mining and Technology Sudbury and Dynamic Earth are joining forces to offer an incredible Sudbury earth sciences and mining experience.

1.85 billion years ago, a meteorite struck our region creating what is now known as the Sudbury Impact Structure. Bring your family and friends on our Discover Sudbury bus tour and walk through time to see how this 10 km-wide meteorite has shaped our landscape! This 2-hour guided tour explores the stories buried in the rocks under our feet, showcases various geological and historical mining sites, and highlights how the local geology and mining has shaped Greater Sudbury. Make sure to download the Discover Sudbury GPS-enabled mobile app to accompany you on the tour!

Your bus tour will also include a free Dynamic Earth admission pass (valid on April 29 or April 30, 2017) to further explore the science centre, and its renewed underground tour, exhibits, theatre shows and special exhibition UnEARTHed: 4 Billion years of life!
