Science North Frequently Asked Questions


Q: Is there a place to eat at Science North?
A: Yes. Elements Food Court (formerly Mega Bites) offers nutritious meals in a hurry, featuring fresh sandwiches, soup and a fast food grill. During the summer months, you can enjoy a meal or refreshment on our outdoor patio. Café Boreal, located next door to our IMAX Theatre, features specialty coffees, slushies, popcorn and other treats.

Q: Am I allowed to take pictures of your facilities?
A: Yes. You may take photographs or video of all our attractions, both indoors and out, with the exception of films showing in the Science North IMAX Theatre and Vale Cavern. If you are a professional photographer that would like to schedule a photo shoot at Science North, please ensure that you book accordingly.

Q: Do I need to make reservations or purchase my tickets in advance?
A: It is not necessary to make advance reservations or ticket purchases. During peak periods (summer, March Break and holiday weekends) we do recommend that you purchase tickets to the Science North IMAX Theatre in advance to reserve your preferred film. Science North accepts all major credit cards except American Express.

Q: Are the F. Jean MacLeod Butterfly Gallery and Wildfires! A Firefighting Adventure in 4D priced separately?
A: No. Wildfires! A Firefighting Adventure in 4D is a featured attraction in our Science Centre and is included with your Science Centre admission. Science Centre admission also includes the enchanting F. Jean MacLeod Butterfly Gallery.

Q: Will other science centres accept my Science North Membership?
A: Yes. As a benefit to members, Science North has negotiated partnerships with other science centres across Canada and around the world. Your Science North Membership card entitles you to free admission to science centres outside Sudbury. Please see the members section for a complete list of participating science centres.

Q: May I renew my Science North Membership at other science centres?
A: No. Your Science North Membership must be renewed through our offices. We offer many convenient ways to renew your membership. You may use your credit card and call us at (705) 523-4629 or toll-free 1-800-461-4898 (Ontario only). You may mail a cheque to Science North, 100 Ramsey Lake Road, Sudbury, ON P3E 5S9.

Q: Do you close during the winter?
A: Yes and no.
YES – Dynamic Earth closes for the season from the end of October to the beginning of March.You can still access the Big Nickel when Dynamic Earth is closed
NO – Science North and its attractions are open daily, year-round. We are closed December 24, 25, 26 and January 1. We are also closed for two weeks in January for annual maintenance (please refer to our Hours of Operation for more details). Our Whizards Gift Shop is open to 3 p.m. on December 24 for last-minute holiday shopping. Part of Science North is also open December 31 for our New Year's Eve Family Event. The Cortina boat cruise offers tours of Ramsey Lake from May to October.

Q: Do you have a place I can leave my pet?
A: No. Science North does not operate kennels but we can direct you to commercial kennels. We do not recommend that you leave your pet in your vehicle.


Dynamic Earth Frequently Asked Questions


Q: Is there a place to eat at Dynamic Earth?
A: Yes, visitors to the Copper Café at Dynamic Earth can enjoy snacks, sweets and beverages while looking over Vale's Copper Cliff Smelter properties.

Q: Am I allowed to take pictures of your facilities?
A: Yes. You may take personal photographs or video of all our attractions, both indoors and out, with the exception of the Nickel City Stories object theatre and the shows in the Vale Chasm and Atlas Copco Theatre. You may not take pictures of any Dynamic Earth attraction or the Big Nickel for commercial use.

Q: Do I need to make reservations or purchase my tickets in advance?
A: It is not necessary to make advance reservations or ticket purchases.

Q: Does Dynamic Earth accept my Science North membership?
A: Yes. Dynamic Earth is a Science North attraction. A Science North membership includes admission to Dynamic Earth.

Q: Will other science centres accept my Science North membership?
A: Yes, your Science North membership entitles you to free admission to approximately 225 participating ASTC andCASC science museums and centres across Canada, the United States and world wide. Please see the members section for a complete list of participating science centres.

Q: May I renew my Science North membership at Dynamic Earth?
A: Yes, you may renew your Science North membership at Dynamic Earth, however, you cannot renew it at any other science centres.

Q: Does Dynamic Earth close during the winter?
A: Yes. Dynamic Earth will operate early March to mid-October each year.

Q: Do you have a place I can leave my pet?
A: No. Dynamic Earth does not operate kennels. However, we do not recommend that you leave your pet in your vehicle.
