On April 8, 2024, a solar eclipse will sweep across North America. In Greater Sudbury, the eclipse will start at 2:05pm and reach its maximum at 3:19pm. At the eclipse maximum, 90% of the Sun’s diameter will be eclipsed by the Moon.
Viewing the eclipse at Science North is free of charge, however, admission is still being charged for the science centre.

On the afternoon of April 8, Sudbury will experience a solar eclipse. Before viewing the eclipse, join passionate space enthusiast, and former astronaut candidate, Dr. Olathe MacIntyre, Staff Scientist of Space Place and Planetarium, for a 30-minute talk on the science of solar eclipses. Learn about the phenomenon, how it has been used for science, and some of the unexpected consequences of a solar eclipse. The talk will be followed by a question period.
After the talk, explore the science centre or grab a bite to eat at Elements, then get ready for our main eclipse event beginning at approximately 2pm.

Science North is for everyone! If our regular operations are a little too much for your senses to handle, join us for a Sensory Friendly Sunday, for a quieter, sensory friendly experience. During this event, sounds will be turned down or off, lighting will be adjusted, the science centre will be less busy, and certain spaces will be set up as sensory break spaces.

A fast-paced speakers event featuring 10 presentations by Northern Ontario healthcare providers. Each 10-minute talk will inspire audiences through engaging stories about human health. You’ll connect with powerful narratives from physicians, nurse practitioners, researchers and more!

The world we know today was, in part, fashioned by their innovations and approaches to science. Designed around an interactive quest, the exhibition invites visitors to experience the innovative processes that give rise to Indigenous knowledge by observing, listening, experimenting, and sharing.
